Providence Housing Development Corporation and Sustainable Energy Developments (SED) recently completed a successful crowdfunding campaign through Indiegogo, raising $3, 500 to help install an array of solar panels on their Son House Apartments property.
SED will award and install a 5kW array for Providence Housing as part of their Roc-the-sun giveaway contest won earlier this year. In order to cover additional costs associated with the installation, the crowdfunding campaign was put into action. Thanks to donors, the goal of $3,500 was attained. The money raised will pay for systems costs, construction racking, permit fees and other costs associated with installing the solar array. The project is projected to begin in late summer, 2015.
Solar energy will help Providence Housing minimize costs and focus on their mission. The array will be installed on Providence Housing’s Son House Apartments building, located at 539 Joseph Avenue in downtown Rochester. Son House Apartments features 21 one-bedroom apartments, resident community space, and an outdoor courtyard.
Providence Housing’s mission is to strengthen families and communities by creating and providing access to quality affordable housing enriched by the availability of supportive services. For more information about Son House Apartments, send an e-mail to sonhouse@dor.org.
